Cybernetica signs grant agreement for EU renewable energy project SysFlex
Cybernetica in consortium with 33 organisations from 15 countries has signed a research and development grant agreement for the project „Pan-European system with an
efficient coordinated use of flexibilities for the integration of a large share of Renewable Energy Source“ (EU-SysFlex) in the Horizon 2020 framework.
The four-year €26m SysFlex project is one of the largest of its type, with the project consortium including technology providers, research facilities, power generation companies, grid operators and others. The focus of the project is set to defining and developing technical and regulatory measures for better management of electricity production and distribution in a market with a growing relevance of renewable energy sources.
Cybernetica is focusing on secure data exchange and privacy-preserving consumption data analytics, as the company has significant experience in both of the domains. „We already have a good use case in the energy sectory in partnership with Elering, where the Estfeed data exchange layer allows the smart grid platform to interface with various data sources, enabling the use of data collected from smart meters and sensors in any desired applications,“ says Oliver Väärtnõu, CEO of Cybernetica. „Applying this experience on Pan-European scale will verify the replicability and scalability of out technology further, as an interconnected European grid poses a greater challenge than a single national grid,“ Väärtnõu adds.
In addition to secure cross-border data exchange, Cybernetica will focus on the utilisation of privacy-preserving data analytics with the help of one of its flagship technologies, Sharemind. „Merely exchanging data falls short when we want to be able to make meaningful decisions in the shifting market,“ says Dr Peeter Laud, Head of Research at Cybernetica. „This project gives us the opportunity to work on both technical and regulatory measures to apply our research on a very large scale, while making tangible impact,“ Dr Laud adds.
EU-SysFlex is set to launch on November 1st, 2017 for a duration of four years.
