Estonian Information System Authority and Cybernetica have published the „Cryptographic Algorithms Lifecycle Report 2016“.
The report provides an overview and analysis of the cryptographic measures currently in use, focusing on the threats and vulnerabilities of cryptographic applications, including threat scenarios for breaking RSA, the security of hash functions, cloud computation in reference to various trust models, post-quantum cryptography and the security of ubiquitous authentication and verification tools.
In addition, the report contains a more detailed overview of the current state of quantum computers and their effect on current available cryptography.
The report is the fourth in a series of cryptographic algorithm reports since 2011 and is published in English for the first time by a task force of Cybernetica scientists. Originally, the task force was assembled to analyse the problems and risks that the reliance on cryptography is posing on the Estonian digital infrastructure.
