On the morning of September 2, we celebrated the 20th birthday of the Information Security Systems Department of Cybernetica. On the afternoon of the same day we learned of the death of Monika Oit. During these 20 years, Monika held the position of research director, member of the Management Board, chairman of the Management Board and head of the Information Security Systems Department in Cybernetica. We feel like a dear parent has left us. She was always supporting and guiding us, giving strong criticism where necessary and praise when we deserved it. Monika has been the heart and soul of the Information Security Systems Department, gathering around her the best cryptographers and software developers in Estonia and inspiring them to work together towards a common goal.
All of these 20 years, Monika has been an active participant in building the Estonian e-government and ensuring its security. She has been the Estonian representative in ISO/IEC information technology and information security standardisation committees and a long time member and president of the Estonian Chapter of ISACA. This is just a short list of Monika's achievements. She always had new and important initiatives on her mind and we will now have to try to carry out many of them without her help.
In 2000, the Border Guard Board recognised Monika Oit with the Commemorative Medal of the Border Guard. The President bestowed the Order of the White Star Fourth Class on Monika Oit in 2013.
Thank you, Monika, for sharing your wisdom and time with us. We will miss you dearly. Rest in peace.
The memorial service will take place at the Pärnamäe Crematorium on Saturday, September 7, at 14.30.
