US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency visits Estonian ICT company Cybernetica

US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency delegation headed by director Dr. Arati Prabhakar and a team ICT experts visits Estonian IT security company Cybernetica.

Dr. Prabhakar’s delegation met with Cybernetica’s researchers to discuss new emerging security technologies, their possible applications and societal impact. DARPA and Cybernetica have been collaborating since 2011, when Cybernetica was awarded a research and development grant to develop privacy-preserving computation system “Sharemind”. With the help of DARPA the system has been used to predict satellite collisions.

“Cybernetica has a unique expertise in bringing theoretical security research to practice,” explained Peeter Laud, Cybernetica’s director of research. “Our researchers have helped Estonia deploy the ID-card, digital signatures, Internet voting and the secure government backbone layer “X-Road”. We are very proud that this unique experience has been noticed by one of the greatest technology development agencies in the world.”

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) was established in 1958 to prevent strategic surprise from negatively impacting U.S. national security and create strategic surprise for U.S. adversaries by maintaining the technological superiority of the U.S. military.

Cybernetica is an R&D intensive ICT company that researches, develops and manufactures secure e-government software solutions, light signaling and telematics products, surveillance and communications systems.
