The aim of the project was to define different cryptographic algorithms used in information systems and study their applicability in those systems in order to get an overview of the spread of cryptographic algorithms in libraries and existing information systems and components. Another part of the analysis was to investigate the strength of already implemented cryptographic algorithms.

The result of the study was an informative analysis report primarily for the public sector, policymakers, but also for parties involved in the development of e-services, users of e-services, etc.

The study was commissioned by the Republic of Estonia Information System Authority.
