This feasibility study for e-voting on smart devices deals with analyzing the changes in e-voting risk analysis in a situation where voting from a smart device is possible.
The first aim was to investigate different technical solutions like voting in a browser or in a separate app and how the usage and complexity change for different technical solutions. In addition the aim was to find out how the user experience would look like and would it affect accessibility to voting.
One of the largest parts of this project was to investigate security issues that would arise using smart devices. The questions asked were what considerations should be taken based on different technical solutions and what are the risks compared to the existing voting solutions. Finally, based on the previous analysis an estimation for the complexity of development and the cost was proposed.
The study was commissioned by the Republic of Estonia Information System Authority.
